How to Avoid Divorce by Understanding Things Before Marriage

By Author on 02/03/2023

No one starts a marriage with plans or a desire to go through with a divorce. However, often the hope of living together until old age does not go as desired. No one can predict divorce, but you can take precautions. The following are some ways to avoid divorce by understanding this before marriage:

Divorce

Family problems that may be difficult to solve

If you have a conflict with one of the parties from your partner’s nuclear family, then it’s a good idea to solve this problem before talking about marriage. Whether it’s a problem with your future mother-in-law or future sister-in-law, if you don’t find a bright spot, it’s likely that this conflict will get worse when you get married later.

Must have an agreement about children

Children are one of the gifts in marriage. If you are one of those people who aspire to have children after marriage, then it is better to discuss this with your partner before marriage. Starting from the time to have children, financial ability, to educational patterns must meet an agreement for both parties. The reason is, there are two heads in a marriage who may have different opinions. These two opinions must find a middle way so that later when they are married regarding children it will not cause a fight.

Doing a prenup is a natural thing

You may not have celebrity status, but having a prenuptial agreement will make your married life easier. Because one of the things that complicates divorce is the process of dividing up assets. With a pre-nuptial agreement or prenup, you already have your own agreement regarding the mechanism for sharing assets. Apart from that, a prenup can also help you if you encounter financial problems with your partner later on. It could be that your husband or wife has unknown debts. This can worsen household harmony, so it’s better to do prenup before marriage.

Discuss spending patterns

If discussions to a serious level start to appear during courtship, the first step that must be taken is to open a conversation about each other’s consumption patterns. You and your partner have the same right to know how and where money is spent. This can be a reflection as well as anticipation when getting married later. You and your partner can give each other correction if you feel there are bad habits in each other’s financial management. Having these conversations while dating will reduce the risk of arguments over financial issues later on.

Divorce is a long and exhausting process

Weddings often cost a lot of money, time and energy. But divorce will also drain the same thing, even bigger. Starting from the process of lawsuits, mediation, trials, distribution of arbitrary assets, discussions of child custody, to granting rights to wives. This process often takes a very long time, drains energy and energy to go through it, so that it requires you to spend quite a lot of money. So, it’s better to avoid divorce with some preventive measures than having to go through it because you’re not ready to get married.
